Do you love to dance? Why not try Eygptian belly dancing! Women have been belly dancing for centuries and love the way the movements work so naturally with their muscle structure. The weaving and flowing motions can help keep you healthy and fit. Some people think you only work out the stomach and hips but when you belly dance, you are working out your entire body. One of the things that makes this dance so much fun is the belly dancing clothes.
They are bright and colorful accented with flowing scarves, veils and other accessories like finger cymbals and exotic jewelry. Most of the time the tops and skirts are made of silk or cotton because these materials are lightweight and easy to move in. They come in vivid reds, blues, yellows and greens and as they flow around you the clothes offer a hypnotic appeal. The scarves and belts often have coins, sequins and beads attached to them and as you sway with the music these accessories can give off mesmerizing colors and sounds. A belly dancer will often wear an anklet (a bracelet around the ankle) that adds to these sounds. These anklets have tiny bells hanging from them that jingle as the dancer moves. Another interesting accessory that helps to complete belly dancing clothes is an arm cuff. This bracelet comes in very vivid colors and adds to the allure of the dance. If a dancer is not in her bare feet, she will be wearing sandals with a lot of straps that add to the captivating dance.
Guide Egyptian dance styles
The Egyptian dance style puts a stronger emphasis on finer movements of the human body and is much more conservative than the dances of Turkey, although they have some similarity with the Lebanese dance styles. The Raqs Sharqi (belly dance) is an Egyptian dance, which has its roots in a popular style of dance (“Baladi”) arising in the tribes Arabs settled in northern Egypt. In the 20th century, this style of dance was performed in cabarets, in a formal setting for the first time, while maintaining some elements of source, the dancers were influenced by Western dances such as ballet. Therefore, Egyptian Raqs Sharki developed as a new style in the Egyptian tradition. The three styles of Egyptian dance traditionally associated with belly dancing include Baladi / Beledi, Sha’abi and Sharqi. Other dances are the performances of Ghawazee they are professional dancers in Egypt, Melaya Leff is a dance of characters using a shawl, and the Czar, a dance of Sudanese origin, held by the Egyptians to ward off evil spirits.
